Who Are You?
I’m hoping you already know who I am, but in case you don’t (and I’ll try not to be sad or offended that I’m not as popular as I imagined I might be), I’m Jenn Swanson and I am the creator of Careers by Jenn, the blog and podcast. What Kind of Personal Data Do You Collect and Why Do You Collect It?
In order to streamline and enhance your user experience, this site does collect some information and does use some third-party plug-ins to help do that. The plug-ins we use are:
Jetpack, Google Analytics, Yoast SEO, MailChimp forms, LeadPages, Sumome, Easy Gravatars, WP Spam Shield

Comments
I love to hear from you and so appreciate the interaction! Successful websites always include guest interaction, and so when you come to my site as a visitor and leave comments in the comments box below an article or post, the information/data is collected and stored in our database. Additionally, we also collect and store the visitor’s (as in your) IP address and browser user string to help with spam detection (we hate spam!) as well as to find out where in the world our visitors are located.
Contact Forms
Any visitor information collected via any of the contact forms on the site is used for the sole purpose of interacting with the visitor. (We save it only so we can correspond with you.)
None of this information is disclosed on any other platforms. When you submit your contact information, both the data on the contact form and your IP address is collected for reference.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include links to other websites and social media platforms. Clicking on these links will take you to these sites/platforms and these websites and platforms may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking and monitor your interaction with that embedded content. So when you click, you are leaving Careers by Jenn and going to those other sites.
Cookies (mmmm…now I want some…gluten-free and nut-free please!)
If you leave us any comments, you may opt in to save your name and email address and website in cookies. This is for your convenience and so you don’t have to fill these in each time you want to leave a comment. These cookies will last a year.
That’s Spiffy…but How Long do You Retain my Data?
Well, if you leave a comment, we like to keep it there, because it’s fun to go back and look at previous comments, and because we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments without having to approve you again. Besides…if you leave a “raving-fan-thanks for all you do-you-are-amazing” kind of comment, why would we ever want to delete it? So the answer is, indefinitely.
So what right do I have with regard to my own data?
Well, if you have left us any comments, you can ask to receive a report of what data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also ask that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal or security purposes.
Do you share my data anywhere?
No. Full stop. (Comments submitted may be checked via an automated spam filter, but only to ensure you are not a bot.)
