157 CBJ: Boost Your Productivity in 2018

January 4, 2018

Happy New Year! May it be full of productivity!

Well here we are in January of 2018…and as you can tell by the lovely quality of my voice in this episode…the nasty virus that has been circulating finally got me. Last week, I had no voice at all, which is why there was no show, and this week it will be a short episode as I get really tired fast. That’s how it seems to go though. I managed to hold it off throughout all the activity and church services and family functions and then BAM, Boxing Day came (that’s Dec 26th for those of you not in Canada or the UK), and the wicked sore throat began. It seemed to clear up last weekend, and I thought I was for sure on the mend, and so went to work, we hosted an old fashioned New Year’s Eve Fondue party, we did some fun things and then the cough settled in…and I tell you, I have not slept now in days.

Anyhow…I’ve been to the doctor, I do not have pneumonia or anything dastardly….just a cold…so pardon the sound quality of my voice…I’ll keep it short today.

Productivity is big.

I was thinking last evening, (as Scott was busy making himself what seemed to be a very long “to-do” list using one of those programs that helps organize that kind of thing), that productivity at work and at home, is both something to strive for, and somewhat of a curse.

What do I mean by that?

I mean that those of us with high expectations of what we should be able to accomplish often are our own worst critics. “I didn’t get as much done today as I wanted to” is a phrase often heard at the end of the day around this house. “Still a ton to do this week and it’s already Wednesday.”

Do you ever feel that way? Do you ever feel that you would like to be more productive but just can’t seem to get there?

I don’t know about you, but I am more interested in being efficient with my productivity than I am in working more hours.

I know that I waste time doing things sometimes that are neither productive nor helpful…like checking emails and podcast downloads and Facebook messages too many times a day for example.

If I was to set certain times a day to do that, and only do that, then I might waste less time and as a result, be more efficient in my productivity.

Does that resonate?

In this podcast episode, I share 13 things you can do to boost your productivity in 2018…at work and at home. There are more, I’m sure, and if something is missing that you think needs to be shared, share it below.

I also wanted to let you know that the How to ACE a Job Interview (when you haven’t interviewed in a long time) course is now open for registration and I’ve also got a course bundle happening under Training Resources where you can take both the Resume Secrets course and the How to ACE a Job Interview course at a significant savings if you buy the bundle. So check that out, and have a Happy New Year!

until next time,
